How to Get Clients for Your Coaching or Small Business

Want to get clients? Of course you do! Attracting clients to your business is just as big a challenge in coaching as it is in any other business. A lot of the same principles apply.

How do you:

1. find the right clients for your coaching business?

2. introduce the concept of coaching (or whatever service your business offers) to them in such a way that they can see how it will help them?

3. get them to come to you, credit card in hand, ready to get to work?

The Answer is Attraction Marketing

Attraction marketing is attracting others to you and your business.

The first step is to attract the right kinds of people to you in the first place.

That means you are presenting your materials only to those people who have a demonstrated interest in your service from the very beginning. These are the people looking for you on the internet or through other advertising media.

Finding the right clients:

You don’t run a roast beef special in a vegetarian restaurant.

Therefore your marketing has to be directed to a very specific audience – for example, coaches and small business owners who are looking for ways to grow their customer base.

Catch their interest by targeting the biggest benefit or problem solution these individuals are looking for.

For the purposes of this article, it is how to get more clients.

Introduce the concept of your product or coaching service.

Take a walk in your potential client’s shoes. If getting more clients is the benefit they are seeking, what’s stopping them from getting more clients?

Maybe they don’t know where to look.

Perhaps they are not focused on what kind of client will best benefit from their service.

Maybe they have no clue how to use advertising or internet marketing to reach out to their audience.

Maybe they have several ideas on what to do, but just can’t seem to get started with any of them.

It could be that the idea of actually finding these clients is a little frightening – now they will have to deliver the goods!

This is a typical psychological barrier that many people need help in solving.

Brainstorm as many things as you can think of for this list. Then narrow it down to the top problems you feel cause the most pain and anxiety for your prospects and show them how you can help them overcome these issues.

How to get clients coming to you, credit card in hand, ready to get to work.

You’ve identified the group of people who are out there looking for you.

You’ve listed the problems you can help them solve.

This is probably enough to get them to contact you.

But how do you get them to be willing to pay you for your services?

Give it away for free!

What??? After all that, now you want me to give my services away?

Yes, I do.

Give Your Best Stuff for Free – and Make the Sale Later

If you have business advice, teach it in a free report, or through articles like this one.

If you are a coach, give a free session.

Give good, honest value and build relationships with these people. Treat them the way you would like to be treated.

Structure every interaction with them in such a way that they are the center of things. Their needs, their problems, their goals.

Don’t even think about a sale. You are teaching them how to help themselves.

My coach, Christian Mickelsen, defines coaching as the facilitation of growth and change.

Discover the growth and change your client wants to make. As your relationship develops and their trust in you grows, they will be ready to do business with you.

Because they already know you can help them.

That’s when they will be willing to entrust you with their time, their money and their personal or business growth. After you have demonstrated your understanding of what it is they need and your willingness to stick to helping them in that area – not trying to sell them everything in your warehouse.
