Replicated Websites Won’t Drive Traffic

Replicated websites are generic sites provided for distributors by their mlm companies. Your site looks exactly like every other distributor’s website and you have very little control, if any, of what it does and displays. This can be a very helpful tool as long as you remain aware of what it does and doesn’t do.

Replicated websites will:

1. provide convenience for your existing customers by allowing them to order online

2. provide product information as well as information on your business opportunity

Replicated websites won’t:

1. drive traffic to your site

2. more importantly, they will not drive traffic to your site! (yes, I know, I’m repeating myself, but many of you are lulled by the idea that your replicated website is doing more for you than it actually is.)

Your company may tell you that they will redirect customers who log in to the main web address to your replicated site according to geographic location. But you are only one of many distributors and it may be months in between these company-generated referrals.

It is up to you to generate your own traffic. You can sell your product or services directly from your own site, or drive traffic to your replicated site, or a combination. I have a form on one of my sites which invites my readers to take a survey. The information is being used for research purposes in a university study. When the survey is filled out, an email is generated which thanks them for their time. Included is the address of my company website along with a code good for a product discount. This is one way that I drive traffic to that particular site.

Most mlms will not allow you to mention their name or products on the web. But that's ok, because you don't want to be specific about your product or service at first. Do not fill your website with ads for your opportunity. Instead, give useful information.

Put yourself in the shoes of your target market and imagine what their problems might be, or questions they may have. Then provide the information they are looking for on your site. As they come to respect your opinion, they'll be willing and wanting to learn more. And that's when you will begin to drive traffic!

To sum it all up: replicated websites are good for sales, not attracting customers. Your own website can both attract customers and drive that traffic to your company site. Or, you can keep them on your site and sell from there by setting up a virtual "store." Do you absolutely have to have a website? No. You can get a lot of mileage out of social networking and blogs. But if you are serious about building your business, a website is probably in your future!
