Websites Are Your Virtual Business: How Do You Build A Good One?

Websites can be designed by a professional, built by the site owner or bought from someone else. How ever you come by your site, it must serve the purpose of furthering your interaction with your target market. This is why your company's replicated site won't do the trick--because, while it may be interactive, it's not interactive with you!

If you hire a web designer, be prepared to drop about $3000. If you are far enough along with your business, you may be able to afford that price, but most of us don't start out with that kind of cash available.

For an inexpensive alternative, you can use GoDaddy. Not only is GoDaddy a good place to buy your domain name or names, but it is an inexpensive way to build a website. You can choose to build a site that is 5 pages, or 10 pages or more.

If you believe you will need more than 20 pages, you will get a much better deal building a website with SiteBuildIt, or SBI, as it is known. This site is an SBI site. With SBI, you are not limited to a set number of pages, which is very helpful if you want to enable readers to interact with you via their comments or a forum discussion (which you do!). You don't have to worry about the technical stuff like the look of your site or the day-to-day operations since SBI takes care of that for you. There is a tracking system installed to keep up with your stats, web mail, an analyzer tool to monitor keyword use, and a host of other helpful support tools built in. In fact, you get a value of about $5000 if you were to shop for these things individually. SiteBuildIt websites cost $299 a year which is nothing for the value given.

Whether you choose GoDaddy, SBI or another webhost, you still have to provide the content, meaning you still need material to be posted to your site. Your writing style does not need to be "academic" rather it needs to reflect your own voice and personality. A casual writing style is good.

If, however, you are shaking in your boots at the idea of writing, you can always consider hiring freelance writers to create content for you. You can get a pretty good deal, especially if you buy a series of articles rather than just one at a time.

I prefer writing my own material, but I would not hesitate to hire someone to write a few pieces if I found I was dealing with a time constraint. You can only stretch yourself so far.

Plan on at least six weeks to get your site up and going if you are a beginner. That time will be spent mainly writing content. Websites do not get found by the search engines overnight. It can take 6-12 months to really start showing traffic numbers. That gives you plenty of time to add pages both on your site and to network through other articles and reviews on the internet.

When my clients get stuck, I post information at this site on what to do, so check Computer 101 for answers to your problems. If your problem is not listed, fill out the Contact Me form and I'll try to post something. Obviously, I know the SiteBuildIt system more than others, so I can't guarantee my expertise depending on what kind of website you are building.
